Editor’s Note: Raised by schoolteachers, it’s no surprise that Adam Gray likes to read. And on the long flights between Washington and District 13, our Valley’s Representative to Congress has time. When asked, “What are you reading?” he provided an interesting list:

1) “Abundance” by New York Times columnist Ezra Klein and Derek Thompson, The Atlantic. The authors argue American progress has been stalled by regulatory limitations frustrating our ability to do big, important projects. Said Adam: “This book tells us we have to get out of our own way to get things done.”

 2) They defended the Captiol on Jan. 6. Their names are missing from the tribute,” The Washington Post. Working in the nation’s Capitol, Adam urges us to become more aware of its recent history.

 3) U.S. Economy Was Vulnerable Before the War with Iran,” New York Times. America’s prosperity is uppermost in the minds of many elected leaders. Adam locks in on stories such as this.

 4) George W. Bush: What I Learned from George Washington,” The Free Press. To help commemorate our nation’s 250th anniversary, the 43rd president writes that it wasn’t Washington’s vision, tactics or oratory that inspired him. It was his humility. What else did the most recent President George learn about the first President George? Well, Washington was a voracious reader.

In the photo at top, Adam made his first visit to the Library of Congress on the day he was sworn in. Adam recently visited with the Modesto Chamber of Commerce. During his talk, he brought up one of his favorite books. Hear how it relates to the Valley.
